ORACLES
The Theatre Church benches, fairground theatre chairs, Japanese tatami mats, a dramatic piano, masks everywhere, dancing shadows, textures that envelop the senses... the unmistakable symbolic language of Tarot and dreams permeating the walls and tables of the rich scenery. We are inside the ORACLE. We return to the ritual origin of the Theatre! Sacred and sacrilegious, art runs through the veins of this original place of worship, creating a bridge between Western tradition and the Far East. A place to live unique experiences. We are the Artistic Oracle of Barcelona! An independent, intimate and magical theatre where you can dream awakened. Come and see! ORLAND VERDÚ ORACLES
The Story Founded and directed by Orland Verdú in 2017, ORACLES Theatre / Studio is, without a doubt, the artistic oracle of the most mythical and bohemian Barcelona. Artistic headquarters of the ORACLES Theatre company and its creator, our space is also a dramatic centre with regular training and intensive courses in performing arts, with a special focus on moving arts, physical theatre and Butoh dance. Inspired by the theatres in New York in the late '90s, ORACLES Theatre takes a step into the unknown to make us daydream. We go beyond the circle, where the Void takes Shape in the Scene through the Dream. We are in front of the Oneiric Theatre of Orland Verdú and its factory of dreams. |
ORACLES
The Company
ORACLES Theatre Company was founded in 2013 by Orland Verdú. The first staging of the company was the work Diàlegs de Dalt i de Baix (Ed. Onada), with which it won the VIII Premi de Teatre Ciutat de Sagunt 2011. Works from this early period are Madame Ho Lee, Truc or tracte? and Hyde Cabaret.
The first major mutation of ORACLES Theatre Company was Orland Verdú's decision to investigate butoh dance and physical theatre. Thus, the text was relegated in pursuit of intense and transformative physical work until progressively becoming a soloist with specific collaborations with other artists, mainly musicians. Among them, the Japanese composer Keiko Fujiie for the production NAGASAKI - Wilderness Mute (Natura Morta) and the adaptation of QUASIMODO for butoh dance.
From its beginnings, the artistic direction of Orland Verdú made ORACLES Theatre Company assert the epithet of symbolic and dreamlike. Under this definition, the artist coined this aesthetic vision to his personal contribution to the Butoh Dance and the Physical Theatre, creating the term Mitoh Theatre or Oneiric Theatre to respond to his artistic philosophy and his interest in myths.
Works from this era include PANDORA, DUNSINANE, ICARUS: The Last Flight, HAMELIN: The Pied Piper and the Rats, PINOCCHIO: The Birth of the Actor and MORPHEUS: Sandman & The Seven Sins.
As a company, the work with symbols, images and dreams is highly revealing in the creative process, generating a great impact in the awakening of the collective unconscious in the work with the actor. The state of mind to which the public is induced is a kind of hypnotic trance or lucid dream. This technique is the synthesis of Orland Verdú's research into numerous artistic fields.

ORACLES
The Creator Orland Verdú (Alicante, 1982) is the creative heart of ORACLES Theatre, both in the company and the physical space. Writer, director, actor and dancer ... His work has innumerable interests and facets. As a child he already dreamed of being a magician and wrote stories and plays with magical and strange creatures. As a teenager he insisted on being a writer of horror novels and flirted with joining the legion of cursed artists. Then he mutated into an actor, understanding the trade as the virtue of the magicians when it comes to taking any form. A sleepwalking medium! At last, he found the butoh dance and found the interpreter's elixir of life: the movement and metamorphosis of the living body in continuous dance with the spirit. His creations demand physical technique and a passionate presence from him and his actors. The hidden and asleep, the depth of myths and the human drama against the divine are some of his favorite themes to awaken us from social lethargy. As a playwright, he has received the VIII Premi de Teatre Ciutat de Sagunt for Diàlegs de Dalt i de Baix (Ed. Onada) and the Evarist García Premi for Truc o tracte? (2016). He often talks about ORACLES Theatre as a son. Crazy stuff! You can check his artistic website at www.orlandverdu.com and his blog www.psicotarot.es, one of his best kept secrets. |
ORACLES
The Crew
ORACLES is abuzz with artists. The ewoks of the dream tribe are beings who work in community and who understand the ancient value of having a word: something enormously revolutionary in the 21st century. We build without competing and give our best to create as a TEAM. Because great works need a thousand invisible hands ... And a lot, a lot of Love. Does that sound familiar to you?

Justin P Brown
Freelance photographer, musician, singer, writer and creator. Official photographer, technician and lighting operator at ORACLES Theatre. www.justinpbrown.com |
Víctor Jordà
Designer of unusual lighting solutions, music lover, hypersensitive and devourer of small format theatre. An architect by training, Víctor departed from the world of traditional architecture to pursue his artistic concerns, finally answering an internal call. A new era of experimentation opens ... He landed by chance at the Oracles Theatre in October 2019 and there he discovered the close, spiritual family, and at the same time nonconformist and transgressor that he was looking for. For this reason, he did not hesitate to accept the proposal to join the team. Sometimes you will see him as technician at the lighting console or behind the designs of most of the theatre's posters. www.instagram.com/3or.photography |
Michela Kaufmann
Film and theatre actress. Currently a student of physical theatre. Born in Italy, she currently lives in Barcelona. "Theatre is the game of life. And life is polluted and colored by all of us. I always like to experiment and unify distant worlds. We are all guardians of a story that wants to be told. That is the greatest gift we can offer to others. How to do it? That's what I'm most passionate about! Searching for an original way to tell a unique story." |
Tommaso Morroni
He made his first steps in the audiovisual world upon finishing his degree in Contemporary History, seeking to leave academic objectivism. He loves history and stories, both non-fiction and fiction; researching and recounting them. Through analog and digital photography techniques, he approached photojournalism and from there documentary. He has made a documentary about a social project in Senegal, & currently collaborates in various audiovisual projects between the cities of Barcelona and Pisa. |
